The Effects
of Untreated Hearing Loss

With only 20% of the millions of hearing impaired individuals using amplification it is important for everyone to understand the impact
a hearing loss can actually have,
not only on you but those who love you. Hearing aid users report better relationships with their families, greater independence, as well as
an improved social life. Stress levels are lowered; with improved hearing they do not have to struggle as much to hear. Families and friends also notice these improvements as well. They will report that they do
not have to repeat things as often, their loved one is participating in conversations more and they are inclined to go out more than they used to.

The non-hearing aid users report reduced participation in social activities, more sadness and depression, irritability and anxiousness. The stress of untreated hearing loss can also contribute to health problems such as headaches, muscle tenseness or even high blood pressure. Most people don’t realize just how stressful it is to struggle to hear. Research has shown that people who do not correct their hearing loss have a higher incidence of other health problems than those who do.

So what can you do about your hearing loss? With current technology, a hearing aid system can be found for virtually any hearing impairment. There are hearing aids in all price ranges (you don’t have to buy aids that cost $7,000) with varying degrees of technology. You can obtain assistive devices for your telephone or TV that will amplify those sounds you need to hear. There are many options out there.

Remember, hearing loss is not a sign of “being old”. Hearing loss affects people of all ages, from children through all adulthood. Isn’t it time YOU did something about your hearing loss?
